Autumn at the Chicago Botanic Garden

The Chicago Botanic Garden opened more than 40 years ago as a beautiful place to visit, and it has matured into one of the world's great living museums and conservation science centers.

In 2015, more than one million people visited the Garden's 27 gardens and four natural areas, uniquely situated on 385 acres on and around nine islands, with six miles of lake shoreline. The Garden also has a renowned Bonsai Collection.

The Chicago Botanic Garden has 50,000 members—one of the largest memberships of any U.S. botanic garden. People of all ages, interests, and abilities participate in programs, take classes, and stroll the grounds year-round. (From the Chicago Botanic Garden website)

Crabtree Nature Center

Located near Barrington Illinois USA, the Crabtree Nature Center consists of 1,182 acres of woodland, wetland and prairie which provides a rest stop along the migratory bird highway.

Glacial Park in Northern Illinois USA

Glacial Park is characterized by its rolling prairie, delta kames, oak savanna and the meandering Nippersink Creek. Encompassing over 3,400 acres, Glacial Park contains over 400 acres of dedicated nature preserve which harbors 40 state endangered and threatened plant and animal species.


Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie

The Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie (MNTP) is a tallgrass prairie reserve operated by the United States Forest Service. The first national tallgrass prairie ever designated in the US, it is located on the site of the former Joliet Army Ammunition Plant about an hour's drive from Chicago.


The Chicago Botanic Garden

August 1, 2016: The Chicago Botanic Garden is a beautiful 385-acre living plant museum located in Glencoe, Illinois. It features 26 display gardens in four natural habitats: McDonald Woods, Dixon Prairie, Skokie River Corridor, and Lakes and Shores. It is a world renowned scientific research and educational resource center.


Morton Arboretum

The Morton Arboretum, a 1,700-acre living museum, champions trees throughout the world through scientific study, conservation, and advocacy. Located in Lisle, Illinois near Chicago, it offers a unique experience for park visitors.


Palos Hills Forest Preserves

Palos Hills is a large complex of forest preserves to the southwest of Chicago. It includes one dedicated nature preserve and a nature center. The hills are the result of glacial activity during the last Ice Age, as the area around Chicago is generally flat.

Containing wetlands, prairies, forests and savannas, it is a popular destination for picnicking, fishing, hiking, biking mushrooming, birding and horseback riding.


Chicagoland Conservatories

Right now there are just photos from the Garfield Park Conservatory, but they will soon by joined by photos from the Lincoln Park and Oak Park conservatories.
