“I am so sad to hear that Bob Simpson passed away this weekend. I’ve known Bob for over a decade, and for a number of years, we documented many of the same protests and actions. More than a photographer, Bob was a life-long activist, and although I only knew him in his latter years, I always appreciated his commitment to justice and the way he’d show up consistently for the movement. He was always so kind and supportive; I’ve missed him these past years that he’s been unable to join us in the streets, and his passing is a huge loss to Chicago. Sending love to his family and all who knew and loved him.”
“Bob Simpson and his camera were in the midst of every protest and demonstration for many, many years, and as these photos and tribute indicate, the man behind the camera was no mere observer but a warm and very kind human being who was an active campaigner against injustice and the rotten system we live under.
Sadly and deeply missed. Rest in power, Bob Simpson.”
“I will miss Bob Simpson. He spoke up compassionately and with courage against some of the dumass perspectives in the ISO Chicago branch until he decided like many of us should have seen it that the organization was unworkable. He rode his bike everywhere. He turned me on to kale and greens. I will miss his wisdom and I too had not visited with him in far too long. Bob Simpson Rest In Peace!😢”
